CD Review: Valient Thorr-"Our Own Masters" (2013 Volcom Entertainment)

Valient Thorr-"Our Own Masters" (2013 Volcom Entertainment)
by: Jeff Blackburn

I was quite unprepared when I first listened to "Our Own Masters". What i needed was my cut off jean jacket, a scruffier beard,  a seemingly endless supply of Pabst Blue Ribbon, and all my rowdy friends to be a part of the experience. Valient Thorr is in fact an experience that leaves no influential stone left unturned . The sixth full length from theses North Carolina rebels has the attitude of Lemmy rolled up in a punk rock blanket. It has that 70's stoner vibe to bring along all the fans of that genre as well. There are even some faster riffs to satisfy the thrashers out there. Valient Himself's vocals remind me of a cross between Pepper Kennan/and Ozzy mixed with early bantering Neil Fallon from Clutch. The best label I could put on Valient Thorr is straight up dirty rock n roll.

The tracks "Torn Apart", and the catchy "Cerberus". The opening "Immaculate Consumption" kicks the party off with the explosive guitars and attitude to soon make you want to go do a beer check to make sure you will have plenty while at Valient Thorr's any time party. I give "Our Own Masters" an 8 out of 10. Looking  past the whole dirty, sweaty, good times there is enough substance to keep the listeners attention time after time.
