CD Review : Blood Red Throne - "Blood Red Throne" (2013 Sevared Records)

CD Review : Blood Red Throne - "Blood Red Throne" (2013 Sevared Records)
The technical, brutal groove machine that is Blood Red Throne is back! The self titled seventh release by these masters of Norwegian death mayhem is a masterpiece. Blood Red Throne have always been known as being a tight , precise, technical band. Let there be no worries here as they continue to live up to this label. The drums are like a steady jackhammer, unleashing a non stop assault across the entire record. I have always been amazed at the bass work on every Blood Red Throne release I have listened to. I have to be honest here, I was worried about that part of the band, as long time bassist Erlend Caspersen left in 2011. Enter new bassist Ole Bent Madsen who more than stepped up to deliver on the album. The heavy natural bass tone makes it easier as a fan to deal with the loss of Caspersen. Enter new vocalist , and  ex-Concussion front man Yngve Bolt Christiansen.
Bolt lets his message spew with such hatred and disdain you can't help but to love it as he goes back and fourth from low guttural death belts , to high pitched torture shrieks. The band is so tight and technical. Every note played  for a specific reason, leading up to the brutal death groove breakdowns that BRT has become known for. as a listener , you know you are listening to some good stuff when you are sitting down head banging, thrashing ,swinging your fist along to every song while dogs and children run for cover \m/ ! These are not the breakdowns of your flavor of the month "death core " bands that have all the kids in the Hot Topic stores thinking they are sick metalheads.
These are the kind of breakdowns that could registered on a destruction scale. Tracks such as Primitive Killing Machine paint a picture of a mad man from the goriest of horror films. More times than not, I found myself out of the chair pseudo moshing, punching the floor, and anything in my immediate area!

Overall I give Blood Red Throne a 8.5 out 10.The band is at the top of their game on this self titled release. While BRT are not straying from their sound, they are progressing and perfecting it. Any fan of extreme music of any kind should do themselves a favor and check this release out.Tracks that really stand out to me are of course Primitive Killing Machine, for the unrelenting pounding BRT unleashes on the listener. In Hell I Roam is just brutal ,fast, and sick from the first note played!
