Born Roger Keith Barrett ( January 6 1946 – July 7 2006). Syd was the founding father of the psychedelic band Pink Floyd.
He was the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter during the band's psychedelic run.
providing major musical and stylistic direction in their early years. Syd also was the one who came up with the Name we all come to love.
Barrett was the one person who mostly brought Psychedelic rock, space rock, psychedelic folk music into the main stream.
For seven yrs. He was active in the music community recording four singles, two albums, and several unreleased songs with Pink Floyd. He left the band in 1968 only to go into seclusion lasting more than thirty years.
Their has been talk about Barrentts mental illness, drugs use , and hospitalization in A number of biographies.
He died in 2006 amidst rumors. Pink Floyd wrote and recorded several tributes to him after he left, most notably the 1975 album "Wish You Were Here".
Today PINK FLOYD is one of the most influential ,recognised rock bands to bless this planet selling more than 200 million albums worldwide, including 74.5 million certified in the United States.
Syd Barrett would have been 66 years old if still alive today. Who knows what Barrett would he be doing today. Maybe some wild psychedelic come back with Gilmour and Waters. Who Knows! But what i do know, " I Wish You Were Here " R.I.P. Syd
